“Star Wars Rebels” Unveils Art at Celebration Europe

July 27, 2013 – Concept artist and illustrator Ralph McQuarrie may have passed away in 2012, but his spirit and influence live on in the first-ever displayed depiction of STAR WARS REBELS, Lucasfilm’s newly announced animated TV series.

Today, the first art from Lucasfilm’s follow-up to Star Wars: The Clone Wars was unveiled at Star Wars Celebration Europe. The new action series will be introduced as a one-hour special on the Disney Channel sometime in the fall of 2014 and then be followed by a series on Disney XD.

Dave Filoni, Executive Producer of the now-shuttered Clone Wars series and the upcoming Rebeles series, says the look was inspired by the late Ralph McQuarrie. “We wanted to create a look for this part of Star Wars that precedes A New Hope by just a little bit,” Filoni said. “We’re going for something that’s much more an illustrative look.”
