August 10, 2013 – The D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, for diehard Disney fans, is well underway, and Disney has released visual hints of things to come.
Various wooden and stenciled crates are scattered on the floor of the Imagineering pavilion, like easter eggs waiting to be discovered. One is labeled “Orange Harvest”, an allusion to “Project Blue Harvest” (George Lucas’s falsely-titled Star Wars production in the early 1980’s, in an attempt to fend off prying eyes from the filming of “Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi”).
Various other crates are labeled “Contents 1 Protocol Droid”, “Light Saber Assortment”, “Contents: Bantha Milk – 12 Bottles” and “Rancor Food Case of 12 Cans /13.2 Ounces”
My favorite crate suggests the outline of an impatient R2-D2, who has busted out to go exploring. (See photo above.)
So what are these crates hinting at? Will Disney be revealing plot details or make a casting announcement for Episode VII? Or major upgrades at Disneyland, including a rumored bikespeeder ride? Stay tuned for developments. And if you see a droid unit roaming about, please notify Disney Imagineering.
