February 11, 2014 – Three months from now, filming for Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to begin at Pinewood Studios in London as principle casting has already been concluded. Filming will occur from mid-May through September, 2014, in the same London studio where the original Star Wars (1977) began production. This filming schedule will allow over a year for post-production work to be completed, with the highly anticipated movie premiering on December 18, 2015.
The sequel trilogy (Episodes VII, VIII and IX) is rumored to be influenced by the canon of the Expanded Universe. Other rumors point to a re-working of the script by J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan with a plot focus on the original heroes – Luke, Leia, and Han. My best guess is that Episode VII will be a blend of both new characters a la Expanded Universe and a nostalgic revisit from an older (and wiser?) Luke, Leia and Han.
J.J. Abrams and his team have so far been consistently tight-lipped about casting and scriptwriting details. Expect, however, to finally see a list of actors and their roles over the next three months and, we hope, some important details on how the Episode VII plot unfolds.
