August 20, 2014 – Now here’s a trailblazer for you: Twenty years ago today, when the Internet was still in its dial-up infancy, desktop PC’s were clunky and slow as molasses, and all things Star Wars-related felt limp and lethargic, along came a passionate collector named Gus Lopez.
Thanks to Mr. Lopez, the Star Wars Collectors Archive (www.theswca.com) was launched on 20 August 1994 as the Internet’s first website dedicated to Star Wars collecting. The first-of-its-kind website has helped to bridge the geographical gap between collectors worldwide, educated them and showcased some of the very best Star Wars collections around. The Archive Database also serves as an invaluable resource for researching and learning about any number of collectibles in a very long list of categories – some esoteric and bizarre (unlicensed Star Wars ceramics, anybody?) – that may interest the collecting community.
You can read Gus Lopez’s 20th anniversary message here, looking back at the past two decades and discussing his hopes for a revamped website and plans for the next 20 years. Congratulations to Gus Lopez, his website and his supporters!
