September 10, 2014 – The paucity of solid news about Star Wars: Episode VII continues. Beyond this past week’s rumors and speculation (“Luke hasn’t been seen in nearly 30 years!”…”Leia is leader of the Republic!”…”Han and Leia’s daughter is one of the lead characters!”), there has been precious little confirmation about Episode VII’s storyline. And that’s exactly how director J.J. Abrams wants to keep things until the movie trailers are released sometime next year and until the film premieres 18 December 2015.
Visually, two new clues ended up this week online: First, actor John Boyega posted a message on Instagram (“New week! New planet!”) and an exterior photo of what appears to be London’s Pinewood Studios:
So does this mean that a new planet is being introduced to the Star Wars universe? Or is the planet new to Boyega for filming purposes, but otherwise old hat to the audience? (Tatooine is a good bet.)
The reference, of course, is to Apple’s announcement on September 9th of its new Apple Watch (est. price $350 to be released early next year) – the first time a major new Apple product has been released since 2011. So what does this tweet have to do with Episode VII? Probably nothing at all unless, perhaps, the purplish-blue and black background in the photo is a hint of a return to … the Death Star?!?
