April 17, 2015 – Five popular fan collector sites are joining forces at Celebration Anaheim to form a unified jigsaw collectors patch. The five Star Wars fan sites include Jedi Business, Jedi News, Jedi Temple Archives, Star Wars Action News and Yakface. (You can access their websites by clicking the icons in the sidebar to the right.)
Collectors may enjoy the challenge of picking up each of the patch pieces which, when assembled together, form a unified “Star Wars Celebration Collecting Track Patch Set” (yes, quite the mouthful). The patches are free and available only at the Star Wars Celebration Anaheim Collector’s Social Room (room 1120) during the limited time-windows listed below.
Each fan website is sponsoring and giving away a single pie wedge, and there are six patches in all. The sixth and final patch is the BB-8 droid patch, which sits at the apex of the set. BB-8 is the rolling soccerball-type droid in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens – and which made a live appearance at yesterday’s kickoff panel with director J.J. Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy.
Sounds easy, right? Think again: Two of the wedge patches were already distributed yesterday by Jedi Business and Jedi Temple Archives (see schedule below). That leaves four remaining wedges. In addition, the give-away windows are generally limited to one hour during a specific day and, unfortunately, this may interfere with your ability to attend a panel, see one of your favorite celebrities, or to eat lunch. (If you have time to actually sit down and eat lunch, you might be doing something wrong. Or right?)
The final challenge is collecting the sixth and last piece: the humongously popular BB-8 droid. Again, you’ll have to trek over to the Collector’s Social Room, but the wedge piece will only be given away at random times during podcasts, speaker panels, signings and other events. In other words, you’ll have to attend one of these events in order to collect the final patch.
Another alternative is the twitter account for Star Wars Celebration Anahim Collecting Track @C6CollectTrack. A small number of top wedges will be given away via Twitter announcements.
Or you can wait until after Celebration closes and turn to Ebay for the missing patches. But what fun is that?
Here is the schedule for the exclusive patch giveaway (Room 1120):
Thursday, 16 April: 12:00-1:00 pm – Jedi Business
Thursday, 16 April: 1:00-2:00 pm – Jedi Temple Archives
Saturday, 18 April: 12:00-1:00 pm – Star Wars Action News
Saturday, 18 April: 1:30-2:30 pm – Yakface
Sunday, 19 April: 12:00-1:00 pm – Jedi News
Additionally, at random times throughout Celebration, you might find patches at the Collector’s Lounge.
If you attended Celebration VI in Orlando, Florida, in 2012, you may recall how difficult (and rewarding) the challenge was to collect all the wedges. Good luck, everyone!
