May 3, 2015 – The long drought in Star Wars merchandise may finally be nearing its end. Starting September 4th at 12:01 AM, stores worldwide will be authorized to open their doors to sell a new generation of Star Wars toys, books, collectibles and apparel to celebrate Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Disney has released the photo above, which shows new packaging art for merchandise connected to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the 7th episode of Star Wars movies. The visage of Kylo Ren and his red lightsaber are prominently featured on the box cover art, which will mark a new series of action figures, lightsabers, and all manner of Star Wars merchandise beginning September 4, 2015.
The midnight madness sale will be called “Force Friday”. Expect a flood of merchandise from online vendors as well as traditional brick-and-mortar stores.
Collectors have been complaining about near-empty store shelves and the dearth of Star Wars products since approximately 2012. Inadequate supply distribution and quality control problems (e.g., haphazard paint applications and sometimes failed packaging issues) have frustrated many consumers. Hasbro, the toy company which has carried the exclusive license for much of the product line, has been slow to respond.
Diney’s announcement at StarWars.com provides further details about September 4th. We look forward to the energy and excitement of “Force Friday”, the end of the drought, and the promise of a new age for collectors and Star Wars fans.
