Boba Fett to Star in Second Star Wars Anthology Film

May 7, 2015 – Boba Fett, our favorite badass bounty hunter, is about to star in his own origin story in 2018. This will be the second Star Wars (stand alone) anthology film – following the first anthology, which will be Rogue One scheduled for December 2016.

The next four years will be busy, indeed. Here is the schedule to keep everything straight:

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens premieres December 18, 2015

Star Wars: Rogue One, the first Star Wars anthology film, to be directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn and Riz Ahmed, will be released December 2016. The movie will focus on the rebels.

Star Wars: Episode VIII, to be directed by Rian Johnson, is scheduled to premiere December 2017

► Boba Fett anthology movie to be released in 2018. The movie will focus on the bounty hunters.

Boba Fett’s return to the big screen is a reflection of his enormous popularity among Star Wars fans. This is all the more remarkable since he speaks only four lines (or five sentences) in The Empire Strikes Back (1980): “As you wish”; “He’s no good to me dead”; “What if he doesn’t survive? He’s worth a lot to me”; and “Put Captain Solo in the cargo hold.”

The last time we hear from him, in Return of the Jedi (1983), is a solitary scream as he falls into the clutches of the Sarlacc pit.

While the Boba Fett movie will not be released for another 3+ years, we can watch his character’s very first public appearance at the San Anselmo Country Fair parade on September 24, 1978. The footage has no audio.

Two months later, Boba Fett made his first official appearance in a cartoon segment of the two-hour Star Wars Holiday Special shown on CBS TV. Here is the excerpt:

And you thought Boba Fett’s first appearance was in Empire? Now you know.
