June 11, 2015 – When the climactic father-son duel in Return of the Jedi (1983) was first shown, who would have imagined that 32 years later we would be salivating over a LEGO playset recreating this very scene? And yet, here we are.
The LEGO Store first released its “Star Wars Death Star Final Duel” playset on June 1, 2015. The set (No. 75093) contains 724 pieces and allows you to recreate the final duel between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker in the Emperor’s Throne Room.
The set also comes with five (5) minifigures with assorted weapons: Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine and two (2) Royal Guards. As a bonus, Vader has a two-part helmet, which is removable and reveals Vader’s (or to be more accurate, redeemed Anakin’s) smiling visage.
According to the LEGO website, the “Throne Room features swing-out side sections, opening entrance doors, Force Jump function, collapsing stairs and bridge, reactor shaft, and detachable throne section with rotating throne and hidden Lightsaber pop-up function”.
The newest Lego playset ($79.99 US), which measures over 5” (14cm) high, 12” (32cm) wide and 11” (30cm) deep, when fully opened, appears to have a lot of play-value. We can’t wait to collapse the stairs and catwalk or to see how the Emperor reacts when he’s thrown down the reactor shaft. And who knows? We might even allow the kids a chance to play with it as well.
You can purchase the set online at www.shop.lego.com (currently $79.99) or at various retailers (Walmart $79.00) and Target, among others.
