Why We Love Wave 3 of the Star Wars Black Series 3.75″ Figures

June 30, 2015 – The inconsistent quality and availability of Hasbro’s Star Wars Black Series action figures have been discussed ad nauseam on many other websites and forums. But once in a while, Hasbro hits a home-run and releases some well-executed figures that fans and collectors really, really like.
BlackSeries-Wave02-Loose Case in point: The Star Wars Black Series 3.75-inch Wave 3 assortment of six figures. They include:

● C-3PO (from Episode V)
● Princess Leia in Boushh Disguise (Ep. VI)
● Mosep Binneed (Ep. IV)
● Commander Thorn (Star Wars: The Clone Wars)
● Han Solo with Carbonite (Ep. V)
● A new pair of Jawas

What We Like

► C-3PO’s removable parts: face plate, chest plate, right thigh, and back panel

► Well-painted inner wires and circuitry of C-3PO are revealed once you remove the plates

► C-3PO breaks down into eight pieces so you can pose him, for example, holding his detached leg

► Super-articulated body

► The C-3PO carded figure is attractively packaged.

► Han Solo’s carbonite is an all-new sculpt, meticulously detailed and well painted. Even the side panel “lights”, usually ignored, are now painted in multi-colors.

► This is the fifth and probably best version of a “Han Solo with Carbonite” theme. The first version was the 1985 vintage Kenner figure followed by 1996’s The Power Of The Force “2” Han Solo in Carbonite Block; 1998’s POTF2 (FlashBack/CommTech); and 1998’s Jabba’s Palace (3D Display Diorama).

► Three accessories: binders, tether and carbonite block

► Super-articulated body

► The Han Solo carded figure is attractively packaged.

► Princess Leia in Boushh Disguise is the fourth version. The first version was the 1983 vintage Kenner figure. The second version was the 1996 Shadows Of The Empire Leia in Boushh Disguise. The third version was 2005’s The Saga Collection Princess Leia (Boushh Disguise). Thirty-two years after the Kenner release, we now have perhaps the best version of them all. (Our patience has finally been rewarded.)

► Most accurate representation to date (facial likeness; color accuracy; molding and proportions) of the Leia we see in Return of the Jedi

► Four accessories: removable staff, helmet, bandolier with a soft-goods cape, and canisters. (Unfortunately, the thermal detonator is permanently affixed to Leia’s left hand.)

► Super-articulated body

► The Princess Leia carded figure is attractively packaged.

► We first glimpsed Mosep Binneed in the Star Wars cantina – right after Han Solo shoots Greedo and exits the cantina – sitting next to Takeel. This was an amazing 38 years ago in the original Star Wars (1977) film. And now, for the first time, Hasbro has released this all-new figure, which fans have been clamoring for.

► Mosep Binneed’s head sculpt is screen-accurate.

► Accessory: one blaster pistol

► super-articulated
BlackSeries-Wave03-Jawas ► Hasbro has produced many Jawas over the years, often double-packed with a droid. The very first was the vintage Kenner figure wearing a soft-goods robe and hood in 1978. Hasbro’s 2015 version, while not clothed in a textile material, has perhaps the best plastic-molded clothing for Jawas seen in a long while.

► The twin-pack Jawas are masterfully sculpted. Thankfully, their cloaks are painted different colors and the Jawas are different heights, so they are not simply “twins”. You can assign them different personalities.

► Accessories: holdout blaster (small silver gun) & ionization blaster (larger black gun) which fit into the Jawas’ holsters

► Value: Two figures for the price of one

If you purchase each figure separately, the MSRP is $12.99 (U.S.). To save you the expense of gasoline and aggravation in searching for these, you can buy all six carded figures together (well, actually, seven – since there are two Jawas in one package) from BigBadToyStore.com. The box of six is selling for $79.99, which equates to $13.33 per carded figure. Not bad, considering the time and gasoline you would have expended in looking for these figures.

HasbroToyShop.com also has these figures listed online. Free shipping if your total is $50.00 or more. However, Hasbro’s ongoing problem is maintaining sufficient stock.

However you decide to acquire these figures, don’t let the opportunity pass you by.
