Nien Nunb in TV Spot #7 for “The Force Awakens”

November 23, 2015 – Nien Nunb returns to the big screen after an absence of over three decades. Watch him below in his first promotional appearance – TV spot #7 for Star Wars: The Force Awakens:

The TV spot confirms earlier rumors and a leaked photo (see below) that Nien Nunb is back in battle again, this time fighting the First Order. Some things never change.

We reported in June the leaked photos of three Resistance pilots – two of whom have been longtime fan favorites. StarWars7news.com first published what appear to be three publicity shots for The Force Awakens. In two of them, we see somewhat older versions of Admiral Ackbar and Nien Nunb, who we last saw in Return of the Jedi (1983).

Best of all, these are not CGI renderings, but appear to be actual actors in full costume. Director J.J. Abrams stated long ago that he was going “old school” with a return to the authentic look and feel of props, models and costumes, rather than the prequels’ over-reliance on CGI. The still shots of Ackbar and Nien Nunb are consistent with that promise.

Ackbar-TFArumor

We last saw Admiral Ackbar and Nien Nunb in battle 32 years ago. They were instrumental in the Rebellion’s destruction of the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi. And to this day, Ackbar’s exclamation – “It’s a trap!” – echoes across the decades.

The former Rebel Alliance is now called the Resistance in the sequels. And helping to fight the First Order is our newest X-Wing pilot named Gorwyn.
Grunberg-TFArumor

If the face looks familiar, that’s because you may have seen actor Greg Grunberg co-starring in the NBC television series Heroes (2006-2010), where he played the role of Matt Parkman. Grunberg (born 11 July 1966 in Los Angeles) is an American television and film actor who also has had roles on Felicity (1998-2002) as well as Lost and Alias (2001-2006). He is a childhood friend of J.J. Abrams.

Grunberg is reportedly contracted for all three Star Wars sequels, so he may become the equivalent of Wedge Antilles, the unsung hero who saves the day.
