Visual Effects Video for “The Force Awakens”

January 22, 2016 – Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) have been pushing into new visual effects territory with each successive Star Wars movie. Star Wars: The Force Awakens has benefited from some of the most complex effects to date. The result is breathtaking sequences in TFA, which also recently earned an Academy Award nomination for Visual Effects (Roger Guyett, Patrick Tubach, Neal Scanlan and Chris Corbould).

A short video (2 min. 57 secs) from Wired.com shows how advanced motion-capture technology and performances from actors like Lupita Nyong’o brought her character, Maz Kanata, to life. The video also gives you a glimpse at how environmental scenes, robots, and action sequences were made possible with advanced techniques from Disney Research Zurich and ILM R&D.

While no date has been announced yet for the Blu-Ray Disc release of The Force Awakens, you can expect more in-depth behind-the-scenes videos of TFA in the not-too-distant future.
