June 18, 2016 – Decades ago, Yoda was the first to say “there is another.”
Obi-wan clarified who the other was, in the following dialogue:
Then the Emperor has already won. You were our only hope.
Yoda spoke of another.
The other he spoke of is your twin sister.
But I have no sister.
Hmm. To protect you both from the Emperor, you were hidden from your father when you were born. The Emperor knew, as I did, if Anakin were to have any offspring, they would be a threat to him. That is the reason why your sister remains safely anonymous.
Leia! Leia’s my sister.
Rumors are swirling that Leia, now a General, may finally be able to demonstrate her Force powers. In this newest trilogy, however, she does not become, and never will be, a Jedi. Instead, expect Leia to finally demonstrate her Force abilities in an early scene in Episode VIII.
Beyond that, however, the rumor is that Leia (played by Carrie Fisher) will have only a diminished role in Episode VIII. Meanwhile, Luke (Mark Hamill) will play a Jedi Master and mentor to Rey, filling in the void left by the death of Han Solo.
Are they father and daughter, or otherwise blood relatives? Despite the intense fan speculation, probably not. There will be no repeat of the famous, “I am your father” line. But we won’t know for sure until Episode VIII premieres 18 months from now, or December 15th, 2017.
