Star Wars Celebration Celebrities & the Fall of the British Pound

June 24, 2016 – Yesterday’s Brexit (British Exit) vote in the EU Referendum resulted in a slim majority (about 52%) favoring the UK’s separation from the European Union. The first shock waves are now being felt: Brexit ballot

● The British pound has just dropped to a 31-year low. Last night when I went to sleep, the exchange rate was $1:£1.44. This morning it is $1:£1.37 – an almost 7% drop in value.

● Overnight, the UK fell from being the world’s 5th largest economy to No. 6, now overtaken by France (which is still in the EU)

● British Prime Minister David Cameron, the idiotic Conservative Party politician who called for the referendum and who thought he could control it and produce a “Remain” victory, has just resigned, leaving others to clean up his mess in the coming months and years.

● Financial markets worldwide are in turmoil, increasing the likelihood of a British, followed by a European, recession. The United States’ tepid 0.8% growth in the first quarter also does not bode well in weathering the coming storm.

Will the UK survive in its current form? Who knows. The Scots (part of the UK) overwhelmingly voted to remain in the European Union, and now there are calls for their own referendum on whether to remain part of the UK. A “United Ireland” vote is also on the table. Brexit-Instagram

If there is a silver lining, it is for American and European Continent tourists visiting the UK. Suddenly, with the plunge of the British pound sterling, everything just became about 7% cheaper. After the initial shock, the pound may recover some value.

If you are attending Star Wars Celebration Europe in London (15-17 July), the prices for celebrity autographs and photo ops are now a bit more affordable. Here is the line up announced so far:
