October 22, 2019 – The final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was released late last night.
Some elements were predictable: yet another epic lightsaber duel between Rey and Kylo Ren; massive space battles; and sweeping landscape views.
But the newest trailer also features heavy doses of nostalgia with glimpses of the remains of the Death Star from Return of the Jedi, a wrecked Emperor’s Throne Room, the return of Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams), and a farewell hug from General Organa (Carrie Fisher).
C-3PO, who has appeared in all nine films of the Star Wars saga, even gets his moment in the spotlight. When Poe Dameron asks, “What, uhh, what are you doing there, Threepio?”, our favorite protocol droid responds: “Taking one last look, sir … at my friends.” A hint of a final heroic act?
We will all get “one last look” beginning December 20th, when The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters.
