April 21, 2016 – Today is Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday. Born in 1926, she is the U.K.’s longest-reigning monarch (since 6 February 1952, which is 64 years and counting) and the world’s oldest-reigning monarch as well.

Her great great grandmother, Queen Victoria (1819-1901), had previously held the record as the U.K.’s longest-reigning monarch (63 years 216 days) until 9 Sept 2015, when Queen Elizabeth surpassed that record.

Has Her Majesty The Queen ever seen Star Wars (1977)? Silly question, yes, but we don’t know the answer. She would have been 51 years old when Star Wars premiered.

Sillier, still, were the media’s attempt to link the Queen’s annual Christmas message to a Star Wars reference. On December 25th, 2015, part of her message said:

It is true that the world has had to confront moments of darkness this year, but the Gospel of John contains a verse of great hope, often read at Christmas carol services: ‘The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.’ ”

From the excerpt, some media outlets such as nydailynews.com and metro.co.uk surmised that the Queen was making a Star Wars reference. Said one British tabloid: “Clearly the British monarch is a Warsie and is totally saying the light side of the Force will not be overcome by the dark side.” [“Warsie” is a rabid fan of the Star Wars universe, just as “Trekker” (preferred) or “Trekkie” (sometimes derogatory) connotes a Star Trek fan.]

Ummm/Erm, no. The Star Wars connection is quite a stretch. Unless you have photographic proof, we do not think it possible that Her Majesty has any Jedi tendencies …. oh, wait, what’s this:

Happy Birthday, Your Majesty. May you live long and prosper.
